Mass media serves as a link between people and the government. Therefore media is considered to be the fourth institution of democracy.

2. Elaborate on the functions of Government Media agencies.

The government media agencies provide information about the policies and programmes of the government. They come under the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

3. Describe the negative effects of Mass Media.

  • Traditional culture has been affected.
  • Mass media promotes violence in cinemas bring negative effects on students and children. 
  • Promotes advertisements to buy products which are not essential for them.

4. Write the importance of Media Ethics.

  • Accuracy
  • Confidentiality
  • Protection of sources
  • Right to privacy

5. Explain the importance of Accuracy in Media Ethics. 

The information given by the media should be accurate.
Eg: If only 25 people died in an accident, the media should not figure out it as 50 or 100. 

6. Describe the role of Mass Media making the world smaller and closer.

Consider an example, if you are watching a cricket match between  India and with some other country on a Television you feel that you are one of the members in the crowd of the stadium. The Internet has brought people and countries much closer.

7.  Describe the positive effects of Mass Media.

  • The media provides news and useful information to the people.
  • It can educate people.
  • Promote trade through ads.
  • It can entertain the public.

TAMIL STORIES FOR KIDS (Bedtime stories) The Selfish Giant story in Tamil. சுயநல அரக்கன்   The Selfish giant என்னும் கதையை ஆஸ்கர் வைல்ட் ( Oscar Wilde ) எழுதியுள்ளார். இவர் அயர்லாந்தை சேர்ந்த ஒரு எழுத்தாளர்.  ஒரு கிராமத்தில் அழகான பூந்தோட்டம் இருந்தது. அந்தத் தோட்டத்தில் ஒரு கொடிய அரக்கன் வாழ்ந்து வந்தான். அந்த தோட்டத்தில் அழகழகான மலர்களும் கனிகளும் பூத்துக் குலுங்கின. ஒவ்வொரு மதியமும் அந்த தோட்டத்தில் பள்ளி குழந்தைகள் விளையாட வருவார்கள். அந்த அரக்கன் தனது நண்பன் கார்னிஷ் ஆக்ரே ( Cornish Ogre) என்பவரை சந்திக்க அவன் வீட்டிற்கு சென்று இருந்தான். ஏழு வருடங்களுக்கு பிறகு அவன் மறுபடியும் தனது தோட்டத்திற்கு வந்தான். அங்கு விளையாடிக் கொண்டிருக்கும் குழந்தைகளை அச்சுறுத்தினார்.  "இந்த தோட்டத்தில் நீங்கள் யாரும் விளையாட கூடாது" என்று பயமுறுத்தினார். மேலும் அந்த தோட்டத்தை சுற்றி ஒரு பெரிய மதில் சுவற்றை எழுப்பினார். அந்த தோட்டத்தின் வாயிலில் ஒரு அறிவிப்பு பலகையும் வைத்தான். அதில்  "இந்த தோட்டத்தில் அத்துமீறி நுழைபவர்கள் தண்டிக்கப்படுவார்கள்" என்ற வாசகத்தை எழுதின...
